Where are the Women Magicans? 6 Months, 4 Weeks ago
I don't remember the survey referenced in this article appearing on this site or any other, but according to an article from Miller McCune Magazine, 220 male performers and 7 female performers responded to the question "Why aren’t there more women magicians?" The results are in and you can Read More Here.

I think it's because Magic is seen as a manly art (okay, not manly, but related to men). If you go to E or Penguin Magic, you can't find any effects by women. And if I were a girl starting out in magic, and saw that all effects were by males, and males dominated the chat rooms and forums about the subject, I would be put off. It's kind of like a snowball effect.

All in all: I'm sure if more girls did magic, more girls would do magic. (Actually makes sense if you think about it).

Here are my thoughts on why:
1 - marketing of magic is geared towards males
2 - no famous female magician role models
3 - in the media females are still often portrayed as the magician's assistant and not the magician
4 - perhaps, for some genetic reason, women tend to be less interested in performing magic, but I don't know what reason that could be.

What's funny is, I think a lot of women are interested in seeing magic being performed, so it is puzzling as to why more women wouldn't get into performing it.

If I think of my wife though, I know she would never be interested in performing magic, and from what I have heard from a lot of magicians, their wives are the same way. Makes it hard for us to justify certain magic purchases to our wives

I do now some girls in magic, and I have talked to them about this and about 1/2 of them say they are creeped out by some of the guys in it. I will not name any one, but a good female magician of mine uploaded a picture of her self to a magic forum (not this one) and like 50 people added her that she didn't know at all. Idk really just some of my thoughts.
