The Family that is TMN

Posted by TheMystifyer in Untagged

TheMystifyer

Just read the replies to my blogs so far.  Thanks for all your comments.  I feel like part of the family here already.  Some of you have known me on Twitter; I have also brought some of my fellow magician twitter followers to TMN as well.
I have to make a confession and perhaps I am not alone, but I had always felt slightly intimidated performing for other magicians.  It has not stopped me from doing so, but I sometimes would begin to correct myself in my mind before they would have the chance to correct me.  I found that in that mind set I was more likely to screw up.
Thanks to the support of some great friends on here I have began to set that mind set aside.  It is not that other magicians are here to point out any errors to embarrass me, but to help me.  They know what to look for and can spot flashes that others cannot.
Magicians helping magicians can be an invaluable tool no matter what skill level you are at.  I know welcome and grow from the wisdom of my fellow magicians and hope to help others as I too have been helped.  I could see form the beginning that TMN was that safe haven for growth as well as a place where I could be challenged.
This place is not a collection of magician...it is a Family of Magicians.

The psychology of magic

It is human nature to want to believe in the wizardry of the magician–but also to turn against him and to scorn him the moment that he commits the slightest error that reveals his trickery. Those in the audience are embarrassed to have been so easily astonished, and they blame the performer for their gullibility.

My Twitter Presence

Posted by TheMystifyer in Untagged

TheMystifyer

I started my Twitter account a little over a year ago.  I did it mostly for fun and out of curiosity.   I quickly learned how powerful a tool it could be.  I have been able to grow to more than 1,400 followers and counting.  I've gotten shows form followers who would have otherwise never heard of me.  I also meet some very talented magicians who lead me here.  I have nothing bad to say of twitter outside of the occational random crashing.  I owe much to my Twitter Presence.   In much the same way I Predict the same results for joining The Magic Network.  I will do my part to help promote it too.   ~The Mystifyer
By the way feel free to follow me in Twitter too. if you mention this blog I'll follow you back. My Twitter name is @TheMystifyer

Kicking off

Alrighty I'm sick of not performing and I feel i'm ready to start getting a couple gig here and there. Sooo I've been thinking and what i'd love to get for a start is a gig where I do a small routine multiple times, such as a restaurant or a strolling gig, corporate or some sort of party where I walk round and entertain the guests or I have a little set up with a table and people can come and go. I think I am capable of doing a 40min show easily for a group of about a 100 people or so and if I was given say a months notice i'd go for it but i'd like the less stress of having small routines for a start but I'm willing to take almost anything I get. So the plan is to get some business cards done (got a few designs i'm playing with, trying to keep it simple) which i will hand out to people I think might be possible of getting a gig with that i'd like and Dad has given me plenty of ideas of who I can approach (some of which Dad knows) who he knows have Christmas parties that get entertainment in for their workers and valued customers. So anyway i'll get those done then i gotta get a blazer lol I guess I better look respectable or something, i'm not going all tailcoat and top hat corny but I guess I better not look too casual. So just a short blog but I'm excited I want some gigs can't wait till I get my first one, currently i'm planning hard all my effects for different venues and trying to organize them into routines or where in a routine they would suit. Tarbells is heading my way, should have them next week *drools* lol So then i'll have enough knowledge to last me a lifetime almost haha. So yea if you guys wanna PM me with ideas on business cards or different sorts of gigs feel free to. Imma be going now so yep thats todays random blog lol.

A Blog from Mike :)

Guess who's back, Mike is back blah blah blah

Alright so um no specific topic here, I'll just ramble off a few things on my mind. First I'l start with whats up and a kinda recap on the convention. Well first off, haven't been busking again :( yea really sad, but I will when I get better, and before the weather gets too bad, cause its heading that way at the moment. Got a few neat things planned for some routines I'd like to try in a restaurant soon, now that I might be able to try once or twice in July but after that we get real busy on the farm so it'll have to wait till summer (Decemberish) and that'll be cool, cause I'll have my restricted license so I can drive myself round by then so I will try get a few restaurant gigs, and one thing I wanna try is busking at campgrounds throughout the summer, its the only way I can busk round here without travelling over 2 hours, the plan for that would be to kind of advertise a show there that night at such and such time and do like say a 30 - 45min busking show with quite a few people round and pass the hat at the end. I'll give it a go to see if it's worth it. Then in about January or so its the Whangarei busker's festival which of course I'll be performing at again, and this time I'll be so much better hopefully so I should be able to make a good bit of $$ there lol and of coarse have a ton of fun!

Thoughts on Magic 1

"Effects are just that, effects. It's the great Magicians of the past, present, & future who can use any effect & spin it into a memorable & Magical performance that widens the eyes of children, amazes adults, makes the old feel young again, & Leaves all of us, Magian or not, thinking our own version of "What the?!?" in our heads for a long time to come."
